(Unedited) Spa Intro
A small part of my Journey to becoming a Massage Therapist...
A hand on the shoulder, a hug, a warm embrace. The positive messages we can send one another through contact can, in a moment, feel like a gulp of fresh air bringing new life to us. I didn't realize this was so until I found myself isolated from all touch for several months while training in the US military Air Force
Reserve. During my training, I felt an unfamiliar longing to be near and close to someone. I became sensitive to the pain brought about by the lack of human touch and started to acknowledge it's unforeseen value. We can communicate so much without saying words!
I believe the languages of our senses enlarge our love and appreciation for each other and for life. It's not about muscles, bones and skin. Human beings are more than that. I believe getting massaged by this type of understanding Therapist can bring renewed life to a person and peace to their soul.
I've modified this quote from "Maimonides's Prayer for the Physician"
To Reflect My Heart as a Massage Therapist:
Merciful and Gracious God, let not desire for wealth
or benefit blind me from seeing your Truth.
Strengthen me in body and soul, and
instill within me a perfect heart.
When wiser fellows want me to understand, grant
it to me to hear from them, for You can
speak through anyone, and Your
knowledge is boundless.
Dear God, deem me worthy of seeing in the
sufferer, a person; neither rich or poor,
friend or foe, good person or bad.
Show me only the person.
Illuminate the way for me... let my love for people,
my love for You, and the love I have for my
profession strengthen my resolve to
withstand any obstacle.
